Having taken Jesus in his arms, Simeon praises God and prophesies before the Holy Family, calling Jesus “a light for the nations” (Lk 2:25-35). The holy prophetess Anna looks on in awe and thanksgiving (Lk 2:36-38). Joseph and Mary, who have presented the Child in the temple, kneel in amazement (Lk 2:33). Humble Joseph is seen from behind in dark profile in the presence of Jesus the light.
