Egypt for Your Salvation

“It is for your salvation that God sent me ahead of you into Egypt” (cf. Genesis 45:5). These words of the Old Testament patriarch, Joseph, indicate how his brothers’ malice had been used by God’s providence to save their people from famine. Centuries later Herod’s malice in wanting to kill the Christ child is used by God’s providence to have St. Joseph bring the Savior to a sinful world, represented by Egypt.
